About the Speakers
Professor Cliona O’Farrelly has devoted her professional life to the study of immunology. Her work during Covid was widely published, both in academic journals and media. A Professor in Trinity’s School of Biochemistry & Immunology, she has a broad range of interests and is passionate about communicating science clearly to a diverse audience.
Professor Rose Anne Kenny has 35 years’ experience working in medicine of ageing and is the founder of Ireland's largest adult population study on the experience of adulthood and ageing in Ireland - The Irish LongituDinal study on Ageing (TILDA), now in its 14th year of data collection. She holds the Chair of Medical Gerontology at Trinity College Dublin and has written extensively and had several media appearances discussing how best to remain healthy and happy.
Prof Marcus Collier is Head of the Discipline of Botany in Trinity College. His research is centred on human-created ecosystems with a focus on urban wild spaces and nature-based solutions. He was the lead investigator of two EU-funded research consortia over 10 years and in 2020 Marcus was awarded a European Research Council Consolidator grant for NovelEco, which is investigating perceptions of informal wild spaces in cities with citizen scientists.
Dr Ciarán O’Neill is Ussher Associate Professor of nineteenth century history in Trinity College Dublin. From 2017 to 2021 he served as Community Liaison Officer at TCD.
Dr Jennifer Doyle is a is a historian with Ancestry.com, where she helps tell the story of people, all the different lives they have lived, and piecing together the puzzles of those in the past.
Prof Ciarán Brady was formerly Community Liaison Officer and Professor of Early Modern History and Historiography at Trinity College.
About Unit18
Unit18 is a space provided by Trinity on the Trinity East campus for engagement with our neighbours. Opened for use in September 2021, it is a place for residents of all ages and backgrounds to meet, learn, socialise and have fun. This is Trinity’s first dedicated space for civic and community engagement.
About START – Start Talking About Research Today
START is a research communication and engagement project run by Trinity’s Office of the Dean of Research. It aims to provide opportunities for researchers and the public to engage in conversation and make research more accessible. Every year in September, we celebrate European Researchers’ Night as part of our START programming.
